Plasma-Induced Hemi-Wicking on Sanded Polymer Surfaces

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this paper, a plasma-induced hemi-wicking phenomenon observed on hydrophobic sanded polymer surfaces, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and (PE) is reported. An atmospheric-pressure argon plasma jet was used to treat limited area of the carefully surfaces induce phenomenon. Such triggered by activation different from traditional type, which achieved purely surface topography. Surface analyses X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) water contact analysis (WCA) show that combination sanding treatment increased oxygen-to-carbon ratio, highly beneficial for hydrophilicity. The shear stress tests can enhance 125%, 95%, 296% PP, PET, PE, respectively. study shows newly developed technique combining processing polymers could be potentially useful method in future industry applications.

Dependence of plasma-induced modification of polymer surfaces on polyatomic ion chemistry

Fluorocarbon plasmas are widely used to chemically modify surfaces and deposit thin films. The deposition of mass selected fluorocarbon ions is useful for isolating the effects specific to polyatomic ions. In this study, the detailed chemical modifications that result from the deposition of beams of polyatomic fluorocarbon ions (C3F5 + and CF3 ) on polystyrene surfaces at experimental fluxes ar...

Investigation of Sanded Acrylic Surfaces by Optical Microscopy

Sanded acrylic surfaces have been examined with optical microscopy for evidence of grit embedded by the sanding process. The number of surface imperfections (pits or particles) larger than 5 microns was a factor of two to three times larger in the sanded surface than on a surface that had not been sanded. It was usually possible to distinguish an empty pit from a foreign particle, and the analy...

Nanoscale rippling on polymer surfaces induced by AFM manipulation

Nanoscale rippling induced by an atomic force microscope (AFM) tip can be observed after performing one or many scans over the same area on a range of materials, namely ionic salts, metals, and semiconductors. However, it is for the case of polymer films that this phenomenon has been widely explored and studied. Due to the possibility of varying and controlling various parameters, this phenomen...

Wicking Study of Nanostructured Titania Surfaces for Flat Heat Pipes

We report a wicking material based on nanostructured TiO2 (NST) for the application of flat heat pipes. Heat pipes adopt wicking materials to achieve some unique functions that thermal siphons could not achieve[1], and they have found their applications as cooling systems in a wide variety of areas such as spacecraft and electronics. Different kinds of materials such as carbon nanotubes[2], nan...
